The businesses of Sampford Peverell

We are researching past businesses in Sampford Peverell such as shops, inns, tanners and garages.  Work on the books is progressing well but we are still keen to hear from anyone with anecdotes about, or artefacts from, any past businesses in the village.  We are currently planning 4 books:
  • Shops - published in 2020
  • Inns and guest houses
  • Trades and services
  • Industries

Other projects
Other projects either in progress or awaiting resources include
  • Research into the St Boniface's Home for Waifs and Strays
  • Archaeology - investigating the local Roman site, in conjunction with Tiverton Archaeology Group
  • Book on the Sampford Ghost
  • Sampford Peverell during WW2
  • A new edition of Sampford Peverell of Yesteryear - photos and postcards
  • More document transcriptions, eg 1910 survey and Land Tax Returns
  • Transcriptions of the Uplowman parish registers
  • Identifying the locations of properties in the village with historic names, and recording their changes over time
